Learning and Working Environment

Reading and PC Workstations

The University Library offers you possibilities to work at reading tables and PC workstations.

They are currently available:

  • Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR):  approx. 800 reading places, 31 of which are PC workstations with Internet access. In the Main Library you will find carrels and group study rooms, open group study rooms (OGAs), work cabins, a workshop room, a course room, a family work room and additional lounge areas with stools, armchairs and beanbags.
  • Branch Library Emmy-Noether-Campus (ENC): approx. 25 reading places, 5 of which are PC workstations with Internet access
  • Branch Library Hölderlinstraße (H): approx. 180 reading places, 9 of which are PC workstations with Internet access, also 1 group study room
  • Branch Library Paul-Bonatz-Straße (PB): approx. 30 reading places, 8 of which are PC workstations with Internet access, plus 1 group study room
  • Branch Library Unteres Schloss (US): approx. 130 reading places, also in carrels and group study rooms, 3 of which are PC workstations with Internet access. In addition, there are flexibly usable work areas, equipped with movable sound-proofing elements, tables and chairs on castors and beanbags
     

Wi-Fi can be used with notebooks in all areas of the library.

Carrels

In the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR), floor 2, there are 12 carrels and in the Branch Library Unteres Schloss (US), floor 2, are 7 carrels available. The carrels can be reserved for one month for the preparation of scientific theses.

The chip keys issued must be initialized daily at the device provided for this purpose in the entrance area of the library. As soon as the device lights up, the chip key can be used to unlock the carrel. For further information, please refer to the information leaflet on using carrels.

In the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße and in the Branch Library Unteres Schloss additional workstation trolleys are available.

The chip keys can be picked up and returned Monday - Friday until 4pm.

Students of the University of Siegen with a library card for students or a USiCard activated for library use can reserve a carrel after login via Katalog plus. As soon as a carrel is available, you will be notified by e-mail.

Due to the high demand, we urge you to pick up the carrel key in time or to cancel the reservation for a carrel if it is no longer needed.

Workstation Trolleys

The mobile and lockable workstation trolleys are made available primarily to students who would like to work in the library on a long-term basis with library materials  and/or with their own documents.

The rental period is one month this may be extended if the demand permits it.

In the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR) 52 of these workstation trolleys are available. Information and  regulations for the use of the workstation trolleys can be found in a leaflet.

Twelve of these workstation trolleys are available in the Branch Library Unteres Schloss (US). Information and  regulations for the use of the workstation trolleys can be found in a leaflet.

The keys can be picked up and returned Monday - Friday until 4pm.

Students of the University of Siegen with a library card for students or a USiCard activated for library use can reserve a workstation trolley after login via Katalog plus. As soon as a workstation trolley is available, you will be notified by e-mail.

Group Study Rooms

For work in small groups, group study rooms are available for students, which are freely accessible during the entire opening hours. The group study rooms are equipped with WLAN, power sockets, whiteboards and partly with monitors for connecting mobile devices (How to use the monitors).

Due to high demand, prior reservation of these rooms is recommended (Help to make a reservation).

Please also observe the library regulations in the group study rooms.

Open group study rooms

In the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR), 10 open group study rooms (OGAs) can be used for work in smaller groups of up to 4 people. These are located on floor 0 and in the self-study center on floor 2 and are equipped with WLAN, power sockets and monitors for connecting mobile devices (How to use the monitors).

It is possible to participate in online lectures in small groups via the monitors.

A reservation is not necessary.

Workstation for the Blind and Visually Impaired

In the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR), in the area of the Central Information Desk, floor 0, you can use a special PC workstation for blind and visually impaired persons - please contact our staff at the Central Information Desk.
