When ist the library open?

You can find information about the opening hours of the University Library on our homepage. Current changes (e.g. restricted opening of the library on public holidays) are also displayed there.

Borrowing and returning of media and also extending the loan period (except inter-library-loan) is possible throughout our opening hours.

Who can use the library?

In general, anyone interested over the age of 16 can use the library and apply for a library card. However, minors under the age of 18 require a declaration of consent of their parents or legal guardians. The library card is required to use electronic services within the library and to borrow media.

How much does it cost to use the library?

The use of the library is generally free of charge. However, the use of special services is subject to charges. Fees, charges and refundable expenses are charged in accordance with  the University Library's scale of fees and charges.

How can I request the purchase of media?

Please use our order form purchase suggestion for books. If you enter your library card number here, the title can be reserved for you. You will be notified as soon as you can borrow it.

What do I have to do to prepare for de-registration from the University of Siegen?

For your de-registration you need a confirmation of the library that you have no books on loan or charges/fees to pay.

This request for de-registration you will find in the “Formularcenter” of the University.

The confirmation note is issued at any circulation desk of the library, or,

if you are unable to  come in person, send the form (if applicable together with your library card) to: Universitätsbibliothek, Leihstelle, 57068 Siegen

or: Scan the application and send it by e-mail: benutzung@ub.uni-siegen.de

After processing by the library, your application will be forwarded to the gatekeepers and the student secretariat/admission office.

Can I copy in the library?

Self-service copiers / scanners are available in the library.

Most of the devices offer the following functions: Single-sheet feed, double-sided copying, enlargement/reduction of the copy template.

Prepaid-cards for the copiers and the printing-system are available at the sale and charging stations.
Coin-operated copiers are also available in some cases.

Colour copies cannot be made at present.

Copier foils cannot be printed.

Is it possible to scan in the library?

Scanning is possible on all copiers that have a USB port. Please bring your own USB stick.

Colour, grayscale and black and white scans are possible. The storage is in PDF, TIF or JPG format.
The saved files can be checked and further processed at all PC workstations in the library.

The use of the scan function is free of charge, but a topped-up prepaid-card is required.

How can I reserve a group room in the library?

The group rooms available in the library can be reserved online. Depending on which room you would like to reserve, please call either the reservation system for the Main Library Hölderlinstraße (H), the reservation system for the Branch Libraries Paul-Bonatz-Straße (PB) and Weidenauer Straße (W) or the reservation system for the Branch Library Unteres Schloß (US).


You have to log in with your library card number and the corresponding password to use the system. The reservation must be confirmed by a second user with his library card number. Detailed instructions and the rules for booking a group room can be found on the reservation system page.
