FAQ: Library Card, Activation and Password

How and where can I get a library card or activate the Uni Siegen App / USiCard?

You can apply for a library card or the activation of the Uni Siegen App / your USiCard at any circulation desk of the library.

How do I change my password?

Log in to the Katalog plus and to the account functions (account viewing, loan period extension, reservation, interlibrary loan order) will be possible via the Shibboleth interface of the University of Siegen. Please change the assigned password to an individual password via the service page of the ZIMT.

What do I do if I have forgotten the password to my library card?

University members and students of the University of Siegen will log in to the Katalog plus via the Shibboleth interface with their already known ZIMT ID and the corresponding password (e.g. as with moodle or the University mail account) in order to be able to use the account functions (account viewing, renewing loan periods, reservation, interlibrary loan orders). If you have forgotten your password, please contact the ZIMT Support-Desk.
Please note: Giving your password to other people to access your library account on your behalf also gives them a.o. access to your personal mail account. University lecturers at the University of Siegen can grant a proxy for their library account.

 

Non-university library users will receive a new access identifier (ZIMT ID) and an initial password.
Please save this access ID with the initial password!

Log in to the Katalog plus and to the account functions (account viewing, loan period extension, reservation, interlibrary loan order) will be possible via the Shibboleth interface of the University of Siegen. Please change the assigned password to an individual password via the service page of the ZIMT.
If you have problems using Shibboleth or if you have forgotten your password, please contact the Central Services for users of the University Library.
The staff of the Central Services for users of the University Library can reset your password to the initial password if you forget the newly assigned password.

The previous access data will no longer be valid up from 1st August 2022 and can not be used to log in to the Katalog plus.

I lost my library card / my USiCard, what should I do?

Report the loss of your library card / your USiCard immediately to one of the circulation desks of the University Library to prevent misuse. The card will be immediately blocked for borrowing. You are liable for misuse of your card until you report the loss. A replacement library card will be issued upon request against payment of a fee.

I lost my smartphone. What should I do?

If you lose your smartphone, you should change your ZIMT password immediately to prevent any misuse of the Uni Siegen App with the digital library card.

In case of installing the Uni Siegen app on a new smartphone, the digital library card will be available there, provided it has already been activated once.

How can I notify the library about the change of my address/e-mail address?

Changes of address/e-mail-address can be communicated via "Change of address". Non-compliance resulting in financial expenses and / or drawbacks will have to be borne by you.

Students of the University of Siegen must notify the Student Service Center (SSC) directly of any change of their address in addition to notifying the library.

How can I extend the validity of my library card?

My digital library card / my USiCard is blocked. What does that mean? What am I required to do?

The library card or Uni Siegen App / USiCard will be barred because of following reasons:

  • The loss / theft of the library card / USiCard was reported:
    The blocking of the library account can be reversed by presenting the library card at any circulation desk. A replacement library card can be issued on demand against payment of a fee.
  • Notifications / e-mails send from the library couldn't be delivered:
    Changes of address/e-mail-address can be communicated via "Change of address".
  • The lending period of one of the borrowed media has been exceeded for more than 30 days:
    Please return that item immediately and pay the incurred late fee, in case of loss of the item complete the form on loss statement.
  • Pending charges have not been paid:
    After paying the charges the blocking of the library account will be reversed.
  • Handling fees for interlibrary loan orders have not been paid within 4 weeks after ordering:
    Please pay the amount due at one of the circulation desks. The handling fee is due irrespective of fulfillment of the interlibrary loan order.
  • The validity of your library card ended (University staff of University of Siegen):
    Please inform us about renewal or extension of your contract of employment by using the application form for an extension of the validity of the library card or apply for a library card for non-university library users.
  • You missed the enrolment deadline for the following semester:
    Please present a certificate of enrolment for the current semester at one of the circulation desks so that the block can be lifted or apply for a library card for non-university library users.

Why can I not access my library account with my access data?

The login in the Katalog plus will be done via the Shibboleth-interface with the already known ZIMT identifier and the corresponding password. If you have any questions about your users account or loan periods, please contact: benutzung@ub.uni-siegen.de

  •  Have you activated your Uni Siegen App / USiCard for library use?
    Only with activation for library use your Zimt ID can be linked with your library account, then it is possible to log in via the Shibboleth interface.
     
  • Your library card or your for library use activated Uni Siegen App / USiCard may not be linked to a Zimt ID. Please let us know your library card number (UBSI...) or your App number / USiCard number (in the app resp. back side of the card) and your Zimt ID (benutzung@ub.uni-siegen.de).

What should I do if the Uni Siegen app doesn't work?

In the case of malfunctions or error messages, please use the support chat in the Uni Siegen app.
You can find this in the menu bar at the top.

Can I access my library account with my smartphone?

Our Katalog plus is also available in a version for mobile devices - for example smartphone, tablet-PC. The catalogue for mobile devices offers the same functionalities as the catalogue for PC workstations, here you can also access your library account.
