FAQ: Conversion of the Printing and Copying System
In order to sustainably reduce paper consumption and further reduce electricity consumption, the printing and copying system of the University will be changed starting in October. At the same time, the usage options of your prepaid cards will change.
The sale of prepaid cards has been stopped. The recharge of credit is no longer possible. Repayment of remaining balances was possible until 31st May 2023. Prepaid cards can be returned until 30th May 2026 at the ZIMT-Userservice, where you will also get back your deposit.
The multifunction devices (printing/copying/scanning) from the company UTAX have been dismantled.
The black-and-white printers have been decoupled from the previous billing system and can continue to be used by library users (Where can I print?).
In order to sustainably reduce paper consumption, users are asked to switch to the existing state-of-the-art book scanners to secure printed materials.
In total ten state-of-the-art book scanners are available in the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR) and in the Branch Libraries Hölderlinstraße (H), Paul-Bonatz-Straße (PB) and Unteres Schloss (US).
In the Main Library AR there are seven book scanners, including four devices for A2 formats and one barrier-free scanner. Here, the touch screen is located next to the device. This scanner is located on level -1 in the Main Library AR.
In the Branch Libraries H, PB, and US there is one scanner at each of the libraries. In the Branch Library H the scanner can also scan A2-formats, and in the Branch Library US large format scans can be done by library staff.
Scanning is free of charge for all library users. Please bring your own memory stick (max. 16 GB, format FAT 32).
Printing will still be available at the Main Library AR and the Branch Libraries H, PB and US. You have to bring your own paper, but it can also be purchased at the circulation desks at the price of 25 cents per 5 sheets. Printer paper could be purchased until May 31st 2023 at the Main Library AR using current prepaid cards (with appropriate credit). The printing itself is free to library users.
In addition, the AStA Shop offers a printing option.
There is no possibility to copy books or documents within the University. External service providers can be used for copying documents.
The lockers at the Main Library AR and Branch Library US can still be used with the current prepaid cards.
Those who do not have such a prepaid card can purchase a new University Library deposit card at the Main Library AR and Branch Library US to use the lockers.
The University Library offers deposit cards in a different design for this purpose. No credit is required on the cards to use the lockers.
In the medium term, it is planned to offer the use of the lockers via the electronic student ID card (USiCard).
Previous prepaid cards can continue to be used for lockers at the Main Library AR and the branch library US.
Previous prepaid cards can also be returned to ZIMT until September 30th, 2026. The deposit of 5 Euros will be refunded.
The refund of remaining credit balances was only possible until May 31st, 2023, as the license agreements with the billing company ended then. For the return of the prepaid cards at the ZIMT, please refer to: How does the return of the previous credit cards at the ZIMT work?
If you would like to return old prepaid cards to ZIMT, please make an appointment in advance by e-mail (QPilot@zimt.uni-siegen.de).
Please provide the following information in the mail:
- The number of the prepaid card/cards to be returned.
- In case of multiple cards, a scanned or photographed version of the purchase receipt (This has been informed accordingly on all charging stations). If the receipts are not available, only one card can be refunded per person.
Please do not come to ZIMT without an appointment to return prepaid cards. Unfortunately, this is not possible for organizational reasons.
If cards are damaged or blocked, ZIMT reserves the right to refuse to accept the card. Cards must be returned by the acquirer and not by another person. Students are asked to bring the USiCard along with an identification document to the appointment.
When you return the prepaid card to ZIMT, you will receive a refund of the 5 Euro deposit. Please note that a refund of remaining credit was only possible until May 31st, 2023.
