Where can I get a library card? Can I apply for a library card online?

Please fill in the application form for the library card / activation of the USiCard for library use on the screen, sign it and scan it together with a copy of your valid identity card (front and back) and, if applicable, your USiCard (front and back). Please send it to: benutzung@ub.uni-siegen.de.

If you have not yet received your USiCard (electronic student ID of the University of Siegen), please send a copy of your certificate of enrolment for the current semester.

You will be informed, when the library card can be collected.
The library card must be collected in person and on presentation of the identity card.

A personal application is also possible at one of the circulation desks during opening hours, please bring the already completed application form.

Where can I return media?

Please note that only Main Library AR and Branch Library US are open during the lockdown.

Borrowed media from all library locations can be returned to the main library and to all branch libraries during opening hours.

It is also possible to return by post or in-house mail.

Can loan periods be extended?

During the lockdown, the loan periods of all borrowed media (except interlibrary loans) are automatically extended and can be read in the user account.

Regardless of this we ask you to check your user account regularly and to extend the loan periods online yourself (function "Renew ALL media items").

If this is not possible for any reason, e.g. because the loan periods have expired, please contact: benutzung@ub.uni-siegen.de.
In any case, you will receive a reply.

I have forgotten my password, how do I get a new password?

A new password for the library card can be obtained by presenting your library card at one of the circulation desks. Passwords will not be communicated by phone, in writing or by e-mail and cannot be read or reset.

Does the library send literature home?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer this service.

Required literature must be ordered via Katalog plus for collection, the media provided can be picked up at the circulation desks during opening hours.

How do I get literature from the Main Library/the Branch Libraries?

We continue to offer our ordering service:

Literature can be found via the Katalog plus. There, after you have logged in with your library card number and password, you will find a link "Order".

Literature will be picked out by the library staff and made available for collection at the circulation desk. This is usually within one to two business days.

You can also check your user account at any time to see which items have been made available for you. As soon as the literature is ready for collection, you will also receive a message, also specifying the collection location.

How can I get literature that is currently in a reserve collection?

Please let us know your literature request by e-mail, if there are only a few pages from a book, the corresponding section can be scanned and sent to you by e-mail.

If you need the complete book, please get written confirmation from the owner of the reserve collection / lecturer that you may borrow the book from the reserve collection for a certain period of time.

Let us know in advance so that the book can be kept ready for you at the circulation desk. Please bring the confirmation of the lecturer with you.

How can I get literature that is in a working apparatus?

Literature from working apparatus is personal borrowing, the owner of the work apparatus can be contacted on request. Please keep in mind that the owners of the working apparatus may be in home office.

How can I get literature that is part of the library's non-lending stock?

Please let us know your literature request by e-mail, the medium will be made available for you to pick up at the circulation desk. Please inform yourself about the loan periods at the circulation desk.

Can I copy/scan or print in the library?

Copiers and scanners are not available, the library is only open to collect ordered media and to return books.

The article delivery service will continue to be offered. Journal articles can be ordered as PDF.

How long does it take for an article to be delivered via the article delivery service?

The following times apply for delivery:

For orders received by 12 noon, shipping usually after two working days as a PDF document by e-mail.

How can I access e-books and e-journals?

Searching in the Katalog plus is possible without prior registration. E-books, e-journals are listed in the Katalog plus as an electronic resource or online resource. In order to be able to use them, the VPN client must be installed, registration is done for students and employees of the University of Siegen with the g-number of the ZIMT.

This offer is not accessible to external/non-university users, electronic resources can only be used in the rooms of the library.

How long does it take for a book or article to be delivered via interlibrary loan?

Since not all libraries operate in a normal mode, there may be delays. The progress of your interlibrary loan order can be tracked in the interlibrary loan account.

Collection of already ordered interlibrary loan media and return is possible in the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR) and the Branch Library Unteres Schloß (US).

Is it possible to send journal articles from interlibrary loan as a PDF document to the e-mail address?

Yes, this service can be offered again for article orders from January 25, 2021. This Corona exception between VG Wort and the libraries is limited in time until July 31, 2021.

Do I have to reserve a reading place/workstation if I want to study in the library?

Prior reservation of a reading place/workstation will no longer be required from October 26, 2020.

Do I have to wear the mouse-nose mask in the library all the time?

Due to the Coronaschutzverordnung and with respect to other library users, a mouth-nose mask must be worn inside the library (medical mask, surgical mask, mask of standard FFP2 or comparable (KN95/N95)).

What do I have to do to prepare for de-registration from the University of Siegen during the lockdown?

For your de-registration you need a confirmation of the library that you have no books on loan or charges/fees to pay.

This request for de-registration you will find in the “Formularcenter” of the University.

After processing by the library, your application will be forwarded. The reply will be sent by the student secretariat/admission office (SSC).
